Sailor
When I was a child, my dream was to become a sailor. You know origami, the folding of objects from paper? I kept folding boats. Then I would go around asking who would play with me and go to a stream. I dropped the boat in the stream and promised myself that one day I would try to become a sailor. That worked.
In ten years I hope to be an officer. I’m a sailor. I work on deck. Pretty exciting. This is my first time. I’ve been on board for almost two months now. Little by little and process by process I am learning from my officers and my colleagues.
To be honest, I was quite homesick. How you deal with it determines whether you overcome the homesickness. Watching movies, talking to the crew, that helps. In the meantime I have visited several different countries, but I have not been ashore yet.
You have to respect the different cultures and characteristics of your colleagues on board. The best moment so far was when I was working on deck with colleagues. While we were working, we told each other about our lives. That is very important to me: building a good relationship with your colleagues.
