Sailor
Early on I knew that I wanted to go sailing. It started at my school. It had a link with the sea. Then I went to maritime university. That’s how I became a sailor. It’s hard work, but an interesting job. This is my first time at sea. For two months now. I like it now. In the beginning I was homesick. My contract is for six months. And with two months on the road, I do miss my family. That’s tough the first time.
It’s interesting work. I am learning for electrician and I like it. I don’t know if I will always work at sea. On shore you can see your family and friends. Being without them for a long time is hard. I think I’ll stay here for another five years or so. It pays well. On land it is difficult to find work with this salary.
I have visited Italy, Turkey and Spain and seen several cities there. We were also in Rotterdam. The city is beautiful. I liked it. Life on board is mainly a lot of work. But in your spare time there is plenty to do. There is a gym, you can talk to each other in the recreation room, play computer games. But now I’m mainly working to graduate. I write a lot for my university project.
