It has been my dream to work at sea since primary school. To see the world for nothing. It’s my destination. I think it’s delicious. It’s challenging, but I need a challenge in my life. I just keep learning, learning and learning. Because life is a challenge and it’s all about learning.
Before going to sea, I worked for years in a five-star hotel. I have been working on a ship for 16 years now. Different types of seafaring: passenger, offshore and now a tanker. Working in the galley is a challenge, because you want to please everyone. Different tastes, different nationalities. You ask what they like and what they need. You have to cater to them with all their different flavors. Preparing menus, monitoring stocks and budgets. It is not easy. But this is what I want.
I am from the Philippines. I have held various positions at sea. When I worked on passenger ships, I was a bartender. When I started working in the offshore industry, I became a chef. I liked that, because I wanted to learn a lot for the future. My dream is to open my own restaurant. When I’m done sailing and I’m back with my family, I can cook for all nationalities and start my own business everywhere.
